Therapy is most effective when you have a therapist who’s the right fit for you—kind of like dating, where you're looking for a good match. To help you make the best choice, we’d like to give you a chance to get to know our team a bit before your first session. Consider this our professional “About Me” bio.
Erin Birely, LCPC
Erin (she/her) is the owner and founder of Birely Counseling Services, LLC, with a dedicated career in the counseling field since 2012. She believes that effective therapy is rooted in genuine and authentic relationships between therapist and client. Unlike traditional blank-slate approaches, Erin actively shares her emotional responses during sessions, fostering an environment of openness. She asserts that emotions, along with the avoidance of them, are central to many challenges faced by her clients. By helping clients understand the functions of their emotions and what they signify, Erin equips them with the skills to tolerate rather than evade these feelings.
In each session, Erin is committed to addressing the unique needs of her clients. Drawing on her training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness techniques, and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, she tailors her approach to best support individual growth. Erin believes that integrating emotional processing with experiential work can create a profound impact, motivating and sustaining meaningful change. She enjoys working with clients aged 13 and older who seek to better understand how their emotions influence challenging behaviors. Erin has a particular interest in helping individuals struggling with eating disorders, relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicidal ideation.
Erin offers both virtual and in-person sessions, depending on clients' preferences and locations, though she prefers in-person interactions for the deeper connections they foster.
Outside of her professional work, Erin enjoys spending time with her two dogs, who occasionally join her during virtual sessions. She also cherishes outdoor activities with her horse, Smartness, who plays a vital role in her equine-assisted therapy sessions. During the colder months, Erin engages in home improvement projects that often provide her with insights and metaphors relevant to the emotional work conducted in therapy. Erin also enjoys traveling and experiences different cultures of ways of living, peek the picture above of her with her feet in the Nile River!
